Roma-Verona 2-0. Lille. The strenght of right.

The American Civil War (1860-1864) was a monumental tragedy for the United States and shaped its history. When the Confederates (pro-slavery) put the Northerners in a difficult position, the then-president of the United States delivered a historic speech that can be summed up as "The armies in the field are equal, but we have the strenght of right on our side."

And the strength of the right is fundamental for defeating the authoritarian powers in the world. Because everyone must have the right to freedom of expression. Because international law must prevail over the law of the strongest. This holds true for Ukraine, and therefore for Europe, and for Gaza. International law derives from Roman law.

Regarding Gaza, the Global Sumud Flotilla's mission is both highly praiseworthy and extremely dangerous. It would be a very risky gamble for Israel to kill anyone on the flotilla, further isolating this small Middle Eastern country. But Israel has already made egregious mistakes several times, taking advantage of the impotence of world governments, who must, in any case, take into account the will of the people: on the side of Palestine. In short, it's a complex situation. I certainly don't feel like asking the courageous members of the Global Sumud Flotilla, who have already shown courage, to put their lives at risk.

Studying your opponent also means asserting the power of reason. I expected a strong defensive phase from Verona, but the Scaligeri came to Rome to dominate.

Verona showed up confidently at the Olimpico and came close to scoring several times. Dovbyk did well, putting a stop to the attack early on excellent Celik's assist. It's important that the Ukrainian got going. He was also good on the layoffs. The Artem-Lorenzo connection needs to be exploited.

In the second half, Hellas took even more control, but we had the best chances on the counterattack. Matias Soulè finally scored at home. We'll now wait for the goal in front of the Sud, which is protesting for the fans arrested in Nice. My deepest sympathy goes to the arrested fans. So, we're back in the Europa League. We'll host Lille, who have started well and are among the top spots in Ligue 1.

Genesio fields Lille with a 4231 formation that isn't easy to read because they defend man-to-man all over the pitch, especially because they often press high up. Bentaleb is the center for the W, and his usual choice is verticality, not just with short passes but also with long throws.

Bentaleb will have to be pressured by Pellegrini

In attack, they also attack with their full-backs, especially from the flanks. In Perraud's absence (replaced by Verdonk), the real driving force behind the attack is right-back Tiago Santos. Pellegrini, Angelino, or Tsimikas will have to sign him. Then we'll see Gasperini's decisions, as he has the final say.

In recent matches they have defended both man-to-man and zonal on corners.

They're also very dangerous with long balls from the goalkeeper (Ozar) to Giroud (a left-footed player), who then passes them to the two wingers or the attacking midfielder (the excellent Icelandic player Haraldsson), creating counterattacking opportunities. Olivier is excellent at volleying. Our Gianluca Mancini will have to have a great game.

Another dangerous player is the Spanish winger, Fernandez-Pardo. He can play on both flanks, especially on their left flank; he's good with assists and a right-footed curler. Celik's experience is crucial.

The Europe we want to conquer in a football sense must be the priority of our politicians, even those on the far right. Moreover, fomenting hatred between various European nations is anachronistic in times when only European policies, even for the far right, are necessary given the new framework of continental powers in command. To engage as equals with the US and China and be prepared for any possible madness from Russia, we must speak as Europe with one voice.

Nationalism is also a value for right-wing anti-fascist parties, but this does not mean fomenting hatred of foreigners, including other European countries. Even far-right parties must have a unified European policy, rational, anti-authoritarian (and therefore consider themselves anti-fascist), and advocate for Europe's independence from authoritarian countries like Russia, which could become so like the United States.

It's the strenght of right that Abraham Lincoln spoke of. The same force of reason that Roma used against Verona and will have to use against a strong Lille.

Daje Roma!
