Roma-Monza 4-0. Como. Crisis means Rebirth.

Dad always told me that crises are the first step towards growth. To a rebirth. Even in politics, Europe has always needed crises to start again stronger. Essential now that the danger of fascism looms in the world. And also in the Curva Sud. Even Claudio Ranieri's Roma has emerged from the crisis and is, for me, stronger than the Roma that preceded the club's dark period.

Monza has very kindly lent itself to Roma's walk on the demotivated and demoralized corpse. I hope that the Brianza team will rediscover the fighting spirit that has always distinguished the Lombards. The mission of maintaining the category is very difficult, but it would be a mortal sin not to try.

Roma dominated in terms of possession time and territory. We rotated a lot and those who played were good. The goals were by Salemaekers (a wonderful side-footed shot), Eldor (thanks to a long dribble and a chocolate assist from Soulé), Angelino (after a nice team move, with the usual left-footed shot from the back of the foot to the far post) and Cristante (finally on a corner and best on the pitch also for the management of the match).

With 8 wins and 4 draws in the last 12 games, we are therefore facing the Rebirth of Roma who has many good cards in hand in the UEL and to reach Europe also from Serie A. Also the Champions League. I will therefore limit myself to the two basic strengths from which we started and which are the main reason for our growth.

The first basic point is to consolidate the defensive phase also avoiding counterattacks: an aspect in which we are still too vulnerable.

The second basic point is ball possession and the consequent domination of the field: the ideology of our dear, great, Daniele De Rossi (sempre e per sempre dalla stessa parte mi troverai). Ball possession must not be sterile, but aimed at shooting.

If during the build-up phase the midfielder, with his back to the opponent's goal, has 3 meters of space compared to the opponent, he can turn and propose play. Not necessarily pass to the goalkeeper or defender, increasing the opponent's pressure. A teammate can also sense it.

Then the construction from the bottom must not be a dogma. The recent evolution of football sees the high pressing often win over the construction. The construction can allow counterattacks, but often the opponent has time to settle the defensive phase: the risk that is taken is greater than the benefit that is drawn from it.

You should never rule out a pass to the centre forward. Then Dovbyk (very good in this situation) and Eldor (who is improving a lot in this aspect) must be good at launching the counterattack action.

If the club's rebirth is an established fact, it is not the same for the Curva Sud. I am proud and grateful to the Sud for the choreography, the voice and the effort they put into supporting the club, but yesterday with the banner inspired by a neo-fascist song they made all the Roman fans look like shit. And mind you: it is not a denunciation. It is not that I am disgracing them. It is an evident fact. In front of everyone.

Fedayn banner during a Coppa Italia match in 2003 against Lazio (which they later won) to denounce the presence of fascists in the Curva Sud. The banner says: Between us too, there are shit like you.

It's like a bomb goes off. There are deaths and I exclaim "Oh, guys, there are deaths". I have not given any new news. I am not the only one to say that we have made a colossal fool of ourselves. Many Romanists who are sincerely anti-fascists are getting indignant and saying so. And it is not paid indignation as "Il Romanista" said.

I don't think there will be big changes in the strategy of the Sud, but at least, Romanist brothers, realize that they are taking the piss out of us all. Even many Lazio fans who are enjoying themselves. You don't launch certain banners, certain songs and certain messages in the name of all Romanists. Then, on a personal level, you can be as ridiculous as you like.

We are in a time of crisis for the world too. Lately the most important fact is Trump's honorable mediation between Russia and Europe. Unfortunately the USA is taking a position closer to Russia than to its historical NATO allies and then the current US administration has some problems with contact with reality.

If it is okay with the American people, I have no problem, but if you are to be a mediator you must report figures, concessions and requests in an exact and detailed manner. A problem not only with respect to Europe, but also with respect to their new Russian friends.

Trump says “Russians accept European troops in Ukraine”. Peskov, Putin’s spokesman, arrives and says “We will never accept NATO troops in Ukraine”. Peace cannot be found like this. We need TRUTH.

But Europe is reacting. Well done to Macron and Starmer for making troops available for Ukraine. Good to start from an industrial coordination to create a defense coordination in the future and then towards an army. From the moment of crisis something good is being born. The Rebirth of Europe. From the vision of Altiero Spinelli.

The patient is dead but not seriously ill. The far right is gaining strength all over the world. Terms like mass deportations have been legitimized even with an almost positive meaning. The fascist salute seems to be back in fashion. At least in America.

The neo-Nazis of AfD have taken 20% in Germany and are the second party in the largest economic power in Europe. Just like it happened 100 years ago with Hitler. Mind you. It ends up that the fascists of the Sud are right. Actually, no. We need a mass mobilization not only of progressives, but also of moderates.

In Germany, there was a big reaction to the Nazi threat. Big demonstrations. The left did well overall. What the SPD lost, the Linke gained.

The CDU won because it denied that it would ally itself with the AfD. That silent majority so vilified by the left in the 70s must wake up and be indignant against the Nazi-fascists (with all due respect to Il Romanista).

Now the German Chancellor will be the secretary of the CDU, Friedrich Merz. Another important point in favor of political Europe, on which Merz said he wants to focus. A great Germany for a great European nation. In Europe there is a proudly anti-fascist and pro-European right. In these times, it is a fundamental barrier. Even in Italy and France the right-wing parties must take a strong anti-fascist and pro-European position.

But now Roma must think about Como and confirm the pace.

If we now expect another easy walk at the Olimpico against Como, we are off track. Como is a very fearsome team that has just defeated Conte's great Napoli at home. They have several quality individuals. A young coach who has great successes behind him as a midfielder and who has equally great successes ahead of him as a coach: Cesc Fabregas.

Cesc Fabregas deployed a 3421 against Atalanta which then became 541 in the defensive phase with the wingers acting as full-backs and the attacking midfielders acting as midfielders.

While at Dall’Ara, home of Bologna, Como played with 4411 with Nico Paz behind Cutrone. Here it looks like a 442 with Diao even lower than Engelhardt, momentarily man-marking the Bologna attacker.
They defend by zone on the corners.
They build in a W with the center being Caqueret, here Caqueret will carry the ball going to their center-left.

Perrone instead is the midfielder for ball recovery. In the build-up phase he makes precise and simple passes (as Pisilli should do more often), but rarely particularly offensive.

On the right wing there is usually Assane Diao who is very fast on the counterattack, while on the left wing there is either Strefezza or Fadera, Strefezza and Diao can play indifferently on both wings. Against Fiorentina, Diao was on the left with an excellent performance and Strefezza on the right. Watch out in the center for Cutrone and especially Nico Paz who is a striker with crystalline talent.

Daje Roma!
