Fiorentina-Roma. A Draghi's team.
As I said in the last article, Roma's goal this year is Europe. Geopolitically, the world needs Europe to be a major power, to mature, to make strong decisions, consciously, freely, and autonomously.
The feeling is that Europe is governed by a Commission that is too weak at a time when decisive action is essential. The geopolitical situation has sent us a message: the US no longer protects us, so to curb Russian imperialism and safeguard our democratic values, the European army can no longer be postponed.
The European army must be based on European industry and must be fueled by the common European debt. The transfer of sovereignty from small European states to a single large state is equally urgent, so as to give the Commission credibility to negotiate on equal terms with the US and China. Von der Leyen is a fine, amiable person, but right now we would have needed Mario Draghi as Commission President.

The danger is that the weakness of Europe's governments will favor the already strong far right in Europe, in a situation where the economic crisis and mass migration are reinforcing fascist hatred. The alarm bells are already ringing in France. Europe cannot abdicate its role as a benevolent mother and must help France service its debt, along with very gradual reforms that prevent the fascist narrative of a bad Europe and a good Russia.
Mario Draghi would certainly have taken a strong stance against Trump's tariffs, he would have diluted European bureaucracy, which is likewise a tax, he would have given Europe clear direction even on the massacres in Gaza, giving Europe the leading role on the global stage that the world needs.
If Europe needs Draghi, Roma is a Draghi team. We showed great character in recovering immediately from Kean's (a superb center forward) blow. This was followed by Soulé's beautiful left-footed shot and Cristante's winning header from a corner.

In the second half, our captain Gasp asked our players to control the game, and we did it quite well. We were also very lucky. Fiorentina hit the post with Kean at the end of the first half, and in the second half with Piccoli, they hit the crossbar.
Roma are therefore joint top of the table with Napoli, led by the great Conte. The two teams from Central and Southern Italy leave Milan, Inter, and Juve behind. We close out this period between the two international breaks (Go Azzurri!) with 4 wins and 2 losses. In Europe, we're in full swing. We'll definitely have to perform better in our next matches than we did against Lille, who are still a strong team that drew with European champions PSG on the last matchday.
My growing feeling is that Gasp wants to focus heavily on the league. A dream he failed to achieve, despite his Atalanta team often being the most entertaining team in Italy. In hindsight, it's incredible that the Atalanta team that effortlessly destroyed its opponents won "only" one Europa League title during Gasp's reign. I personally don't feel like contradicting this decision, which, let's remember, stems from a hunch. Now his focus must be on Chivu's very strong Inter. But that's another story.
Daje Roma!
